Travel as Self-Care: A Wellness-Driven Approach to Exploring the World
Your Healthier Life, Simplified

Why Travel Is Self-Care
In a world that celebrates productivity over pause, travel can be a radical act of self-care. It’s more than a break from routine; it’s an intentional decision to step away, reflect, reset, and reconnect. As a wellness coach and travel advisor, I’ve seen firsthand how meaningful getaways can realign your habits, heal exhaustion, and offer clarity you can’t always find at home. Whether it’s a weekend away or a passport-required adventure, travel gives your mind and body space to breathe, and your soul a chance to roam. There are different seasons of life, and sometimes women in particular need to travel solo to finally experience the rest and relaxation they so often deny themselves in their everyday roles as caregivers, planners, and problem-solvers.
Wellness-Focused Destinations That Nourish Mind and Body
Forget the cliché “escape” trip. These are places designed to restore, whether through nature, quiet, community, or movement. I’ve rounded up a few trending destinations perfect for those seeking true rejuvenation, and included a few more here:
U.S. Southwest (Sedona, AZ; Ojai, CA): Think red rock landscapes, meditation hikes, and energy vortexes.
Costa Rica: Surf, yoga, and lush rainforests meet holistic retreats and locally grown plant-based cuisine.
The Blue Ridge Mountains, NC: A peaceful regional option with forest cabins, farm-to-table food, and plenty of trails to clear your head.
Cruise: Whether you want adults-only or family-oriented, if you prefer Caribbean escapes, Mediterranean adventures, Alaskan explorations, or New England scenic tours, there’s a cruise (and cruise line!) for you.
Let me help you choose the right destination based on what you’re really craving: rest, solitude, adventure, or connection.
The Intentional Packing List: Travel Items That Support Well-Being
What you pack can either support your wellness goals or sabotage them. These are a few travel-tested items I always recommend for clients:
Reusable water bottle with a filter: Stay hydrated and cut back on plastic, no matter where you're headed. I like this LifeStraw bottle.
Lavender essential oil or roll-on: Like this one, for calming nerves on flights and helping with sleep in unfamiliar spaces.
Compact yoga mat or foldable meditation cushion: For travelers who need movement or mindfulness wherever they go. This is a good one for travel.
High-protein travel snacks: Avoid blood sugar dips and airport junk food. I can recommend a few great vegan options, my faves are these.
Sleep essentials: Eye mask, white noise machine, and magnesium go a long way when crossing time zones.
Need a customized list for your next trip? That’s what I’m here for.
How to Choose Your Next Wellness Trip (Even If You Don’t Have Time for One Right Now)
Planning the trip is part of the self-care. Your next wellness trip doesn’t have to involve a passport, or even a suitcase. Even if you're not ready to leave town tomorrow, taking time to envision the kind of travel you want sets the intention. Are you yearning for stillness or stimulation? Mountains or water? Familiar comfort or brave discovery?
As both a wellness coach and travel advisor, I guide clients through these questions to uncover what they truly need, and then help plan every step.

Tips to Travel Well Without Losing Your Habits (or Your Mind)
Travel often unravels our routines…but it doesn’t have to. Here’s how I help clients stay rooted even while on the move:
Build movement into your day: Walk the city instead of taking cabs or public transportation. Do ten minutes of stretching before bed.
Maintain small rituals: Morning journaling, a warm cup of tea, or evening breathwork can ground you.
Plan for downtime: You don’t have to do everything. Schedule in rest just like you'd schedule a museum tour.
Hydrate + Nourish: Prioritize sleep, water, and protein to feel your best in a new place.
