Redefining Rest: What It Really Means to Be ‘Well-Rested’

Your Healthier Life, Simplified

Hey there,

Let’s talk about rest—but not just the kind you sleep your way into (though you know I’m all about healthy sleep habits too!).

So many of us are chasing this idea of feeling "rested," but even after a full night's sleep, we wake up feeling... exhausted. It’s not just you. Rest is more than sleep. It’s about how you care for your whole self—body, mind, and emotions.

Let’s break it down:

There Are 7 Types of Rest (Yes, Really):

  1. Physical Rest – Sleep, naps, stillness, and sometimes... stretching.

  2. Mental Rest – A brain break. Less multitasking, more mindfulness.

  3. Emotional Rest – Allowing yourself to feel and express without guilt.

  4. Sensory Rest – Less screen time, bright lights, and overstimulation.

  5. Creative Rest – Time in nature, art, music—reigniting your spark.

  6. Social Rest – Saying no, choosing who recharges you vs drains you.

  7. Spiritual Rest – Connection, purpose, reflection, peace.

Sound familiar? Or maybe foreign? Either way—if your cup feels empty even after a good night’s sleep, this is your sign to tune into the other types of rest you may be missing.

Where This Meets What I Do

Rest isn’t one-size-fits-all—and neither is wellness. Here’s how we can work together to create space for true rest in your life:

  • New parent? Let’s set up healthy sleep habits—for your baby and for you.

  • Feeling stuck in survival mode? Let’s talk life coaching. We’ll work together to reduce the mental load and reset your rhythms.

  • Trying to feel healthier day to day? Gentle habit coaching can help you build real rest into your routine—without a total life overhaul.

  1. Breathe: One slow inhale and exhale before you answer that text or open your inbox.

  2. Move away: Step outside for two minutes. Even just standing in the sun counts.

  3. Name it: Ask yourself, “What kind of rest do I need right now?” Naming it is often the first step to getting it.

Start there. And if you’re not sure what you need, that’s okay too. That’s exactly what I help with.

What “Rest” Looks Like in Real Life

Rest might look like going to bed early—but it might also look like finally asking for help.
It might be 10 minutes of quiet in your car before daycare pickup.
It might be saying no to that extra commitment, even though you feel guilty.
It might be journaling before bed instead of scrolling.
It might be scheduling a call with me because your body and brain are both saying, “something has to change”.

True rest is often less about stopping everything and more about pausing with intention. It’s a skill. A practice. And it’s okay if you’re still learning how to do it.

My work is rooted in helping you create space for that kind of rest so you can breathe easier, think clearer, and feel like yourself again.

Personal Note

Lately, I’ve been noticing how even I have to fight for rest. Not the sleep kind (okay, maybe that too), but the quiet, permission-giving kind. The kind that lets me pause without guilt. The kind that says, “It’s okay to not do more today.”
If you need that reminder too, I hope this email gave you permission to begin.
